How much willingness and bravery must be shown to survive years of servitude and russification? Small nations, one of the smallest ones in Europe, were subjected to ruthless politics of denationalisation by their huge neighbour Russia, which lasted for centuries. Nevertheless, they still exist, speak their own language, know their country borders, are a member of the European Union and NATO and experience the quickest economic development in the EU. Sometimes difficult history brings happy endings. When you visit beautiful cities of Riga or Tallinn, when you wander among mild green landscapes with thousands of lakes in which the sky is reflected, you think of these small nations with respect and liking. This is so because we also know the price of freedom.
